Dear T-D Families:

As I write this missive, camp is still in session. Our summer school classes are winding down, but not yet completed. School begins in about a month from now (September 15th). My next mailing will be a week from now and it will address most of your main concerns about the new school year.

Please forgive me for being selfish, but I need lots of help for the 2010 academic adventure.

For openers, our Board would like to hear from any savvy parents about how we should market Thornton-Donovan School. Should there be a family member who can offer advice, it would be very welcomed. Should someone be a marketing major or one who works in marketing, he or she could be ideal. To offer your name or to assist simply call T-D and a meeting with our Board or a committee of members from the Board will be arranged.

Item #2 – I’m looking for two student volunteers from grades 5-12 to serve as tour guides for all new applicants interested in admission. Students can call T-D to express interest in helping. Students will be selected according to good citizenship and good academic standing. Please call anytime after September 6th.

Item #3 – The hospitality extended to Thornton-Donovan’s ambassadors while in Sicily was more than one could even ask for or dream of enjoying. In early October I need to house a school group of 22. Of this amount 18 are students and four are adults. The principal of the school and his wife need housing as well as two female teachers. If you haven’t housed a student from another country, this is the time. If you have, you already know how wonderful it is to host. The dates will be from October 1st through October 12th. Breakfast every day, a few lunches and fewer dinners are to be included as well as transportation to and from school. I’ll also be looking for a few parent volunteers to sponsor an outing trip, picnic, dinner, social, etc. Please do everything you can to help.

Item #4 – Any parent interested in housing an international student for the entire year in exchange for almost a full year’s tuition or so can also contact T-D. International students usually arrive early in September.

I hope to hear from you shortly. Grade level is unimportant, so any K-12 family can assist.

I’ll be in touch again in about one week.
Keep chillin’
Very truly yours,
Douglas E. Fleming, Jr.
Headmaster
