FOUNDER’S DAY 2005
WALKING IN MISS EMILY’S FOOTSTEPS
Wednesday, June 8th, 2005
The purpose of this Founder’s Day Walk is threefold. T-D wants to re-establish ties within its own neighborhood and the community in which it serves. Planting two trees in the Beechmont should more deeply root these ties and connections. T-D also wants to remind the City of New Rochelle of its 105 year heritage and walking in Miss Emily’s footsteps on New Rochelle’s main streets and avenues should handsomely satisfy this objective. Thirdly, T-D wants to do more than celebrate its Abraham Lincoln theme; it wants to commemorate the year and the 16th President himself. Every since September our students have been donating their spare change and depositing money in the “Lincoln Wishing Well” with the hope that T-D can create a new dining area outside the Multi-Purpose Room. It is our hope to do so by September ’05, and that the “al fresco dining” experience will be available to all faculty and students K – 12 when T-D begins the Churchill Commemoration.
To make the ’05 school year even more memorable, T-D is going to create a two-tier luncheon area to be aptly named “The Lincoln Memorial Terrace.” It will be plush with lots of green life, flowering plants, attractive tables and chairs, and, of course, outdoor umbrellas.
Who walks the walk? T-D will be walking. This, of course, includes all teachers, students, some trustees, and some alumni as well as Annemarie, Oscar, myself, and maybe even Sammy. It also can include you and yours, parents, grandparents, other family members, extended family, neighbors, or anyone wanting to volunteer.
Our goal is to have each participant receive sponsorship by asking ten or more family members, friends, merchants, neighbors, etc. to contribute $10.50 for T-D’s 105-year history. A Founder’s Day Walk Pledge Form is included for you to circulate.
Can you imagine the amount of money that can be raised by each of T-D’s 160 students? Follow the math! Follow the money!
$10.50 per student
X 160 students
$1,680.00
Should each student illicit ten sponsors the math is easy and the number quite impressive. The T-D students asking ten patrons for $10.50 each, how does $16,800 sound to you? Wow!
Let’s walk the walk! T-D can take Lincoln Monumental to another level. A Lincoln Memorial Terrace is the plateau I’d like to reach. T-D students who gave their pennies can now dine Presidentially.

All T-D students (K-12) will be dressed in clothing that reflects the Civil War period. All in all the day, Founder’s Day, should be great fun. I hope everyone is thinking out of the box and the roads not taken.
Make sure you have comfortable footwear and thank you for helping T-D create its Lincoln Memorial Terrace.
